马兆仁，男，1987年4月出生于澳大利亚塔斯马尼亚州，哲学博士，现为湖南大学岳麓书院助理教授。

2006年—2010年就读于塔斯马尼亚大学，获人文学士学位，哲学专业。2012-2022年就读于湖南大学岳麓书院，先后获哲学硕士、博士学位，用中文撰写两篇获评优秀的学位论文，硕士论文题为《量子理论视域下的周敦颐哲学》，博士论文题为《演化论视域下的孟荀异同》。2022-2024年于湖南大学岳麓书院任副研究员。

研究兴趣主要集中于先秦哲学，近年以演化论与生物学哲学为视角审视儒家哲学。已在国内外期刊上发表论文数篇。

I am an Australian scholar now on the faculty at Hunan University’s Yuelu Academy 湖南大學岳麓書院, the same institution at which I received my master’s and doctoral qualifications in 2016 and 2022 respectively, both in Chinese philosophy. As an undergraduate I majored in philosophy at the University of Tasmania. Wilfrid Sellars saw philosophy as being about “how things in the broadest possible sense of the term hang together in the broadest possible sense of the term”, and that is how I think of my own research orientation, following the questions that interest me where they lead, which has often been across disciplinary boundaries. I have a particular focus, however, on pre-Qin Ruist (i.e. Confucian) thought and its evolutionary basis.

The real world is complex, and interacting with the Ruist tradition requires a clear-eyed recognition of how this complexity often fails to be captured by some of its foundational narratives. This being said, for me personally Ruism is more than just an “object of investigation”. This is certainly in part due to my having been educated at the Academy, the millennium-long pedagogical tradition of which has always had an eye to operationalising the knowledge it has imparted. So when I talk of an “evolutionary basis” for Ruist thought, I am usually thinking about how insights from evolutionary science can be legitimately deployed in constructing an operationalised contemporary form of Ruism to transform lives in the twenty-first century.
